Dangers of Thanksgiving prove importance of insurance

On behalf of Mansell, Engel & Cole | Nov 21, 2016 | Insurance Disputes

While we hate to bring you bad news on the week of a favorite holiday, we aim to arm people with helpful information. And the truth is Thanksgiving is a dangerous time of year.

There are at least a couple of reasons why sources can refer to the country’s holiday as a “deadly” one. Research shows that a relatively high number of people suffer heart problems during this holiday. Another source of danger is the roadways. These seasonal dangers underscore the reality that people need various kinds of insurance policies.

While we cannot prevent all of life’s sometimes scary surprises from impacting us or our family, we can try to protect ourselves financially. That is where insurance coverage comes in, right? That is the plan at least.

Those of us who have families might worry about what would happen if we got sick or fatally injured. Life insurance is an option to try to provide some financial security in the case of a tragic event. Health reports across the country show there’s an increased rate of heart attacks beginning on Thanksgiving day, into the winter.

Sources suspect that more heart attacks occur for a few reasons during the holidays:

-Winter weather in parts of the country can increase health risks.

-People are consuming saltier, fattier foods and drinking more alcohol.

-People travel and tend to forget to take their medications while straying from their day-to-day routines.

The aspect of travel brings up the other significant health danger: traffic accidents. Roads in Oklahoma and across the country are filled with friends and family who are driving to their loved ones for the holiday. Busier roads make for a higher risk of car accidents. Fatal accidents historically happen at a higher rate during Thanksgiving.

We wish that all of our readers have happy, healthy and safe holidays. Life experience and research proves, however, that life does throw serious, sometimes fatal events in people’s paths.

If you have lost a loved one, been sick, been injured or property was damaged in a car accident, we also hope that you have insurance policies to turn to for help.  When you reach a hurdle in trying to get the help you deserve, work with an insurance attorney to protect your rights.
