Oklahoma’s health stats suggest need for insurance coverage

On Behalf of | Dec 18, 2016 | Denied Insurance Claims

There are many reasons why we choose to live in Oklahoma. Maybe it is the weather, the scenery, the lakes and/or the people. Whatever is the reason, those who live here might also want to focus on something else: their health.

The newest annual report on each state’s health rankings is in. There is some discouraging news regarding Oklahoma. According to the United Health Foundation, Oklahoma is one of the unhealthiest states in the U.S. in terms of its residents’ health.

The report lists the following as just a few of the notable and important health concerns in the state:

  • High rate of cancer deaths
  • High obesity rate
  • High diabetes rate
  • High rate of heart disease
  • High rate of cigarette smoking
  • High rate of reported mental health problems

News sources not only underscore the various health concerns that lead to a troubling rate of poor health and early deaths for men and women in Oklahoma; another problem is there is a troubling percentage of residents who do not have health insurance.

When covered by insurance, the ideal scenario is that people will go in for routine check-ups and have the guidance to better prevent future illness. Even those who do their best to prioritize their health and the health of their family, however, too often run into hurdles with their insurance.

These health stats show how people in Oklahoma are in need of medical care. That also means people are in need of reliable insurance benefits. In order for the health ranking in our state to improve, our residents must feel confident that their insurance covers what they were told it would cover. Fear of the financial burden of healthcare can keep people from seeking the care they need.

Someone who is fighting for the health insurance coverage they are owed should work with a legal team who is passionate about protecting their rights. These disputes can be stressful, but they don’t have to be taken on alone.
